Steps of Faith Foundation Update

Did you know that there are hundreds of leg jokes/idioms?

"That costs an arm and a leg!"
"I feel like we've gotten off on the wrong foot."
"Break a leg!"
"You've got a leg up on the competition."

Cheesy sayings we say all the time become really hilarious when someone says them around an amputee like Billy.  And then their eyes get really big as they realize what they just said.  And then Billy acts like he's offended…for one second.  And then laughs and lets the person off the hook.  haha.

Billy lost his leg to cancer in 2005 and now is the executive director for a non-profit called Steps of Faith Foundation.  Next month, Steps of Faith will turn 2 years old!  I'm bursting with pride for as he uses his story, testimony, skills, and faith to help build this charity from the ground up and help other amputees in need receive the gift of mobility.  There's nothing better than telling someone they are going to get help.  "We can help you.  We're giving you a new leg.  And you don't owe us a thing."  And then seeing that person walk with their new prosthesis for the first time.

Many people we meet are surprised when they find out Billy is missing a leg. His prosthetic limb (C-Leg) is such a miraculous gift.  He would be so limited with out it.  We are so passionate about giving other amputees that same gift.  To walk instead of being on crutches.  To move around their house and job easily instead of relying on a wheelchair.  To pick something up a robotic hand instead of adapting to live without one.  To work and take care of their families without feeling handicapped.  All of these things are possible with the help of an organization like Steps of Faith.

Love is Alive

Exciting things are happening with Billy's non-profit, Steps of Faith Foundation.  Things with celebrities.  And I probably find celebrities way more exciting than the average person.  ha.  What? Yes.  I admit it.  But I know how to play it cool, don't worry.

SOF had their first Nashville fundraiser at the restaurant/private club The Standard. It's an amazing, huge, old mansion that has has dining rooms, meeting rooms, private lounges, bars...and literally...a hidden wardrobe to Narnia.  I'm not kidding.  We got VIP access for the night.

Wynonna Judd (!!!) was so kind to lend her golden pipes to this event.  She has a special connection to our cause because her husband, Cactus Moser, lost his leg in a motorcycle accident.  Cactus is on the SOF board of directors and is an amazing testimony of where prayer and positivity will take you after tragedy.  They are an awesome couple.  And those SONGS!  Her new ones are fabulous and the old ones really stand the test of time.  It was such an honor to see her perform in such an intimate setting.  I was a total nerd when I met her and got sweaty when I told her I was a big fan.  She was incredibly sweet to me anyway. Warm fuzzies all over.  We have been singing in our house ever since.

Love is alive
and at our breakfast table
every day of the week
Love is alive
and it grows every day and night
even in our sleep...

We were also ECSTATIC to see our pals Jason and Olivia on NBC's Hollywood Game Night.  Jason was able to play in the final round of the episode and chose Steps of Faith as his cause. What?! It was so exciting to hear the name of the foundation and what they do on such a big platform like this.  Some very kind people across the country heard about the foundation on the show, found the website and sent donations.  Very cool stuff.  Click here to see a video of Jason behind the scenes mentioning SOF.  See the full episode here!

Zak & Erin Photoshoot

These are my super, hip, talented friends Zak & Erin and their little dog Fancy.  Aren't they cute?  They were sweet enough to allow me to use them as models to practice my photog skills.  We had fun getting some shots around their house last weekend.

Erin & Zak are both talented musicians.  Erin is a singer-songwriter.  Zak plays bass.

A day off...

Today was a day of rest, fun and family time.  Billy decided to take a much needed day off after many days of working and traveling.

We started the day with some Urban Juicer…just to get some nutrients and our immunity on.  WB = The Well Being.

Kale, Spinach, Apple, Cucumber, Ginger, Lemon

The Cold Buster = Apple, Lemon, Grapefruit, Ginger.  Heck, yeah.

Then to something not quite as healthy…Barista Parlor in East Nashville.  This place was built for Instagram.  I swear.  Uber hip.  Shoot, even the napkins are hipsters.  But equally as yummy.

(So...Billy snuck in a few emails…but, hey.)

Let's just be honest.  I have a hankering for biscuits pretty much every day.  Barista does them right…and gluten-free.  My dream come true.  Add locally made PRB sausage, The Peach Trunk preserves, and an iced almond milk mocha…and I'm in lactose-free heaven.

A picnic outside at Sevier Park in 12 South with some g-free goodies from A Matter of Taste.

Such a warm, awesome day.  No shoes needed.  Tomorrow it's supposed to snow…so we're soaking this up while we can.

I've always wanted to see the view from the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge.  Today was the perfect day.  We caught it just before sunset.
